Note: Object Description
STRI Excel: aro de metal (hoop) Catálogo de INAC: 9136 Ring with knot, 0.4 g in wt., that appears to be cast copper wire then plated with silver rich layer. Wire is 1.1-1.2 diameter. 10.4 mm inside diameter of ring. 12.8 outside diameter of ring. Overall dimensions of knot: 5.25 x 8.4 mm. Two ends of wire are exposed at either sides of square knot, diagonally opposite to each other. There is possible evidence of joining of the wire, possibly with solder where it overlaps in the knot but this area could also be a casting flange, indicating that it was more likely cast from wax model.
Note: Condition Review
Surface has uneven layer of excavation soil, reddish brown in color. Below soil is silver layer, granular and porous with significant amount of intermittent black corrosion (silver sulfide?).
Note: Housing Notes
Rebagged in polyethylene ziplock bag with Tyvek tag insert. The object was stabilized inside the bag in a purpose-built ethafoam cavity-mount.

Condition: Usewear Toolmarks
Note: no visible tool marks. Ends of wire are somewhat rounded. No solder seam or join area visible at bottom of ring.
Context: Excavation Context
in a burial (stone cyst, extended), dentine date ~1530
Technique: Fabrication Method
rod/wire Note: Round wire ring with wire forming four-sided knot at top. Ring is made from one continuous piece of wire, which contains copper. There is a surface layer of silver-rich metal that is very granular and pitted. Layer appears as distinct layer on substrate metal-there is no visible evidence of silver in substrate. Kim thinks it is applied as a plating (electrochemical?)-appears to coat or overlap areas that have been soldered.
Technique: Joinery
Note: No solder seam visible at bottom of ring (no visible joining)
Treatment: Conservation Performed
Surface cleaned/degreased with acetone on cotton swab
