Fractured and broken w/ 2 areas of loss. Currently composed of 5 pieces - 4 have been reassembled and there is a restoration on the back side, looks similar to matte board and has been painted a golden color. Little evidence of major corrosion. The surface is modelled in color, showing patches of pinkish-pale green-a brassy golden color consistant w/ the appearance of a heated surface. Adhesives are visible on recto and flood areas where card is attached on the verso. Substrate metal is a different metal from the surface (more pink) and slight delamination is occurring.

Rebagged in polyethylene ziplock bag with Tyvek tag insert. Padded with an acid-free tissue pillow.

Remove old restoration, clean and readhere, with extra support as needed, using stable materials. Provide protective housing.

Technique: Fabrication Method
Hammered-Sheet Note: Wider portion of the object has been hammered against a hard surface and the end pieces have been forged and coiled into stock. The modelled color of the surface and the forming methods present are a good indication that the piece was annealed in the course of fabrication. At the base of the coil, there is a clear demarcation between the forged sheet and the rounded wire. The round wire that forms the coil appears to have been minimally work hardened before forming into a coil. The edges of the broad hammered surfaces are generally smooth and regular. The wire was hammered from square stock into round and evidence of the square stalk remains. Copper is visible at the end of the broken wire.
