Condition: Usewear Toolmarks
Note: several sizes of round punch tool or same tool with varying degrees of force for lower/higher embossing. File marks around nose opening, none around outer edge.
Technique: Fabrication Method
Hammered-Sheet Note: Sheet. High points of metal are pinker than surround in both silver-rich and gilded area. Surface appears gilded but by unknown method (probably not electrodeposition, probably depleted). Silver rich horizontal band crossing the feline faces at center of disk, present recto and verso; uneven indistinct border. Maybe use of a resin masking, or selective chemical application, e.g. heat to get out copper; then chemical to pull out silver. Because there's a difference of workhardening in these alloys, likely that formed first and then colored last (for specific placement). Verso is more matte than recto. Chiseled and filed to create nose opening. Edge surface was finished before the repousse done, defined and then sanded and polished (like achieved if polished parallel [along] the edge), vs. nose opening not finished.
Treatment: Conservation Performed
Surface cleaned/degreased with acetone on cotton swab, avoiding resin patch with acc.#
