Number on object 0238; separate fragment also with same number, probably also part of the crown. MARTA Excel: Corona INAC: "Corona" de oro. La pieza esta muy fragmentada, con pequenos faltantes y con orificios. Estado regular Peso 151.6 g, diam 20.2-17.7 cm Slightly beveled medial (waist) band (width 28mm), with large flaring bevel on one side (width 33mm) and small flaring bevel (width 13mm) on other. Weight: 113.3 g ??? With opening edges touching, as reconstructed (approximate): Large bevel circumference at edge: 65.5 cm. Band circumference: 56 cm and 53.8 cm. Small bevel circumference at estimated edge: 55.7cm. Diameter: 21.5-20.0 cm at large bevel edge ("top"); 17.4cm at small bevel edge ("bottom"). Height: 7.5 cm. Sheet thickness (average): large bevel 0.3-0.4mm; middle band 0.3mm; small bevel 0.4mm,

Technique: Fabrication Method
Hammered-Sheet Note: Hammered sheet, open at one end, with 4 punched holes on PR side, parallel to opening (1 in each chased lines, 2 in top bevel, one 5mm up and one central). All 6mm in from edge. On PL side, only 1 extant at bottom chased line; opening PL edge has large areas of loss. Uppermost hole: flange is sharp, not hammered compressed; all others' flanges are folded over, burnished, folded over, compressed. Sheet is significantly workhardened, numerous breaks and losses due to working and deposition (stresses, embrittlement). Sheet shows shearing patches. Break edges have reddish color pebbly core with gold enriched surfaces; granular core; clean but very little evidence of corrosion; what is visible is black (tenorite). Bevel border lines appear chased from the recto, bevels expanded by hammering (probably from recto and verso against a soft surface, prob. with soft tools because no visible hammer marks. A moderate overall polish, but inside has oxides from firescale (heating). Edges show consistent sanding marks on diagonal lower R to upper L (righthanded). Two holes in chased lines on PR side are somwhat burnished on inside curvature from reaming not from wear; other holes show no evidence of wear.
