Note: Object Description
Open back cast double bird pendant with enriched gold surface over heavily mineralized alloy. 2 suspension loops in form of straight bars across open backs. Hooked, open beak. Globular pellet eyes with surrounding ring. Bodies are pyramidal shaped. Birds are joined by plain band where central wing would be. The combined tail is thin and flat. Joins may all be in mold but deep crevices are visible between the bodies and tail and at central join at wings.

Photo neg no. 34637B
Note: Condition Review
Fragmentary. Main section includes both bodies, most of tail and one head. PR beak and eye present as fragments. Missing both wings, and section of PR tail. Depletion gilding still intact except for small loss on PL body and tail that shows black substrate. Also cross sections show mineralized black core. Surface partially covered in green corrosion and powdery pink accretion. Appears brittle. Vertical crack through PL side of tail. Many breaks along edges.
Note: Follow-up Notes
XRF: Analyze body and tail SEM:The broken off eye and head are small enough for SEM. Visible cross sections, however, appear black/mineralized with some shiny coppery material at center. Also- what is powdery pinkish material on surface??? X-Ray:Perhaps X-radiography would help reveal joinery of tail with bodies etc.
