Note: Object Description
STRI Excel: cincel de metal Catálogo de INAC: 72791 Numero de laboratorio: PV-2-99 Tool blank (KCC); Tool with cutting edge (unfinishly sharply wedged) - only hammered. Not quite finished (could be in process of reworking) -- would need to be hafted. Might grind/ sand it next to remove unevenness. RGC: could use for wax. Too thin a blade, would dull rapidly if used for metal. Compare with -059 Weight: 0.7 g Length: 31.6 mm Broken end: 2mm x 1.2mm Tapered (business) end: 4.25mm x 0.65mm The longitudinal corners are not refined (trued, straightened, turned into square-rectangular profile), bulges near knife edge indicate uneven forging, or harder area in the metal - which in finishing would be removed. Tool break could explain its lack of finishing -- too short to keep tapering to create a hafting end.
Note: Research Notes
MCI 5/06 M1 -, M2 -
Note: Condition Review
Stress fractures/break one-third down from broken end (lateral); reglued. Adhesive residues also along side near blade end, pooled in pits. Black corrosion overall, compact, with slight granular lamellar structure visible at break edge (probably effect of hammering). Copper colored metal in pitted recesses; high points are dark brown to dark reddish brown.
Note: Housing Notes
Rebagged in polyethylene ziplock bag with Tyvek tag insert. The object was stabilized inside the bag in a purpose-built ethafoam cavity-mount.

rod/stock Note: Hammered on all four sides. Longitudinal edges are sharp, well-defined, but not refined. Business edge has not been ground, filed or finished, or worn from use (appears as achieved from forging). Bulging/compression manifests on skinny sides from hammering the wide sides. Tool edge is flat with rounded ends.
Treatment: Conservation Performed
Surface cleaned/degreased with acetone on cotton swab, avoiding resin patch with acc.#
