Note: Object Description
Open back cast pendant of a bird with the details all made in the wax model. All surfaces appear to have undergone enrichment, likely from depletion gilding. Only the flat and raised surfaces appear burnished. Areas in depressions retain a porous, pitted quality from casting.
Note: Owner Accession
Gold plated figurine ornaments from Prov. of Veraguas, Panama, collected y Sr. Juan Gratacos, Panama, and from him purchased (Order no.10987) through Dr.J.A Mason. No data on exact site or conditions of finding. All cast in molds and thinly plated
Note: Research Notes
Accession records specify "no info on site." Juan Gratacos, however, did send Lothrop site info on objects at Peabody from Veraguas.

Photo neg. no.34637 B
Note: Condition Review
The depletion gilded surface is fragile and flaking severely. There are losses of the gold surface over most of the lower portion of the pendant. There are raised warts of green corrosion and the depressions on the reverse of the wing are full of green corrosion product. The metal revealed underneath the flaking surface appears heavily mineralized (dark red/black).
Note: Follow-up Notes
The surface is flaking.. and sampling of the gold layer for trace element analysis would be easy
