Note: Owner Accession
Panama; Panamá Province; Arriaján District; ; Venado Beach. Excavated by Eva and Neville Harte. Presented by Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Sackler
Note: Research Notes
(transferred to MCI for analysis July 2009)
Note: Condition Review
Good condition. There is no corrosion, break edges, or losses. There appears to be a clear wax coating
Note: Follow-up Notes
Special Followup. Dendrites present all over back. Would be interesting to be able to determine when interdendritic corrosion occurred. There is a high polish on raised surfaces.. Would these areas be less shiny if the corrosion occurred after polishing?
Note: Analysis Recommendations

Condition: Corrosion
Note: None, but there is some interdendritic corrosion in the crevices as indicated by the clear dendrites on the surface
Condition: Coloration
Note: Gold
Condition: Pseudomorphs
Note: None
Materials:
Gold Alloy Note: Gold with some interdendritic corrosion indicating the presence of a more base metal in the solution
Technique: Fabrication Method
Cast- Open Back Note: There are clear dendritic structure in all of the more porous crevices between the raised polished areas. The entire interior of the back is covered with dendrites on the surface
Technique: Joinery
Note: All in wax model
Technique: Finishing
Note: The raised areas have a high polish. It is unclear whether it has undergone surface enrichment. There are dendrites in the crevices, which are from the casting, but the interdendritic corrosion could have occurred from pickling, corrosion during burial, or conservation treatment... but the raised polished areas don't exhibit any corrosion
