Object appears stable, but there are stress fractures that may be a result of using an investment material which would not "give" upon contraction. The proper left (# 1) creature has a severe crack that extends from front to the back of the animal, also # 3 and 4. # 4 has a blobular and pooled section of resin. There are minor encrustations on the surface of the object overall. On # 4 creature, through the resin repair there appears to be a loss/hole, to which the crack extends. This can't be seen from the back do to the resin. The repair on the edge appears to have small fragments embedded in the resin. Also the crack extends around the neck and on the top.

Technique: Fabrication Method

cast Note: Hollow cast form, the four torsos of the form are parallel to each other and semi-circular in cross-section. There are approx. 3 mm oval spaces between the individual torsos. The torsos are made of a smooth sheet of wax and the heads that extend from each torso are hollow tubular necks. It is unclear whether the heads are hollow, as the interior of the necks of all the creatures are filled with what appears to be clay or casting investment. The heads have 4 bands of beaded decoration that run from the brow ridge to the back of the head. Flat duckbill-like noses extend from the front of each of the heads. A bead of wax on each side of the head indicates ears. Loops have been incorporated into the front legs of each of the forms and each adjacent form shares a loop, with a total of 5 loops overall. The only animal that has what appears to be a complete foot is the left-most animal on the proper left side of the form (the pendant loops determine the top of the form). The proper right lower foot is partially present, all the other feet are missing and appear to have been lost during the casting process. At the bottom of the piece between the 2 middle figures, remnants of a round wax wire are visible in the casting and appear to reveal an early stage in the structural fabrication process in the wax.
